We all showed up this past Saturday on a drizzly morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed, to conquer Free Motion Quilting. This workshop was instructed by Shelley and Bernie of Little Oak Patterns.
After we set up, organized our supplies and introduced ourselves, Bernie gave us an informative talk about our machine’s tension. I think we all particularly loved the demo of the tension plates the most!
Next, it was time to get to the nitty gritty! We sprayed our sample blocks and got to it!
First Shelley demoed the different patterns she wanted us to try. They totally looked doable when she was doing them.
Sitting down to do it ourselves was a little daunting, but we did it!
I think we did a pretty bang up job!
After a short lunch we had another little talk about needles, thread and what a difference they can make. Who knew?!?
After the talk we went back to a room full of buzzing machines.
I think we all walked away feeling a little less fearful of dropping our feed dogs…
…and I think we all realized it comes down to practice, practice, practice! I believe it was Helen from our guild that said, “It takes 500 hours to master free-motion quilting“.
Only 497.25 hours to go!
Many thanks to Shelley and Bernie. We all had a great time!
If you missed the workshop don’t panic! They offer a similar class at their cabin.
