February 2012 Meeting Wrap up

Our February meeting was held Thursday February 9, 2012. I think we had the longest, but best, show and tell ever didn’t we? Almost the entire meeting! As always, our group is loaded with so much creativity and fun and we always have lots of great inspiration and projects to share!

You can check out the slideshow of photos below:

Or click here to see it full screen.

Since we ran so long, we had to squeeeeeze in Barbara’s awesome totebag tutorial. She did a great job showing us the steps of how to make her quilted totes and shared some great assembly tips and tricks- thank you so much Barbara!!

If you missed it, you can download the pattern & instructions here (permission granted from Barbara- thank you!)

Info for March meeting (also sent in the main agenda to all on the mailing list):

Design Seeds/ColourLovers challenge– if you’re participating, bring a printout of your chosen palette, any fabrics you’ve selected so far, etc. to share. More info is on the website here: http://www.fvmodernquilt.com/membership
We’ll be getting started on quilts/projects starting the April meeting.
We’re gearing up for The Creative Stitches Show, Mar 23-24 at Tradex!
This is a great opportunity to show our best modern quilts and invite new members to join our guild!

Lysa has a tentative time schedule for those who expressed interest in manning our booth at the show. We’ll have it at the March meeting & will ask those on the list to confirm that they can attend at the time allotted to them or make any changes needed.
Anyone who signed up but is not at the March meeting will be followed up with by email, and any further arrangements will be done over group email as well. We will coordinate how to get our exhibitor passes to those who are volunteering shortly after the meeting.

We’ll also be displaying some of our guild’s quilts at the show! If you have a modern quilt that you have made and would like to have at th eshow, please bring it to the March Meeting. We can’t guarantee that everyone’s work will be shown but we’ll do our best and ensure that all quilts are stored and shown safely.
We’re very excited to be part of such an awesome show!

Also, our meetup with the VMQG is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 24, starting at 2pm in the Tulip Room at Tradex.
We’ll have a show & tell to start off so feel free to bring something to show, and then we’ll swap our mug rugs!
If you’d like to participate, swap details are:
– make a mug rug using “Improv” piecing – not using a regular pattern- (for inspiration head over to flickr.com or google.com and search for Improv quilts)
– mug rug must be bigger than a coaster and smaller than a placemat
– must have finished edges
– must be a quilt sandwich consisting of a top, batting, and back
– also we are encouraging you to label your mugrug so the recipients know who made them.
The rest is up to you!

We’ll be swapping in person by random draw, participation in the swap is optional.
If you cannot attend the meetup but would like to swap, bring your mugrug to March meeting and it can be swapped for you and your new mugrug brought to you at the April FVMQG meeting.

March FQ Swap theme is Cool colors (aqua/turquoise/blue/green/purple)
If you wish to participate, bring 4 FQ’s in a ziploc bag. Eryn will give you a ticket with a number- place half in the bag & keep the other half. At the end of the night you’ll retrieve your bag with 4 new FQ’s in it!

Things to keep in mind:
Do not prewash your fabrics.
Quilt shop quality only- 100% cotton, no poly/blends, or cotton broadcloth, please.
A fat quarter is 18″x21″ or 18″x22″. Fabric not meeting size/theme will not be swapped.
