(Thanks for the notes, Hedda!)
Helen called the meeting to order at 7:05. This was more of a challenge than usual since many of us were eager to start the ‘Christmas Party’ part of the meeting.
Community Quilts – Jean
Quilting Bee January 21, 2017. Please watch the Facebook page for more information. We will be making ‘slab’ blocks and assembling them into quilt tops. Slab blocks are scrappy blocks put together out of light, medium and dark shades of one colour. So each block is one colour. This is part of a larger initiative being organized by the Canadian Quilters’ Association. For this initiative each has to have a small piece of special Canada 150th fabric which the guild will supply. Quilts will be distributed to Ronald McDonald House.
Creative Festival – Phyllis
We are going to jury quilts very lightly to make sure we are presenting our best modern quilts at the show. Aspects of modern quilting to consider include large scale, clean and simple design, wonky or improvised, lots of negative space, use of solids, unexpected colour combinations.

Membership Update – Barb
We now have 58 members, and 30-ish members in attendance tonight.
The rest of the meeting was spent enjoying ‘strip’ poker – quilters give this a whole new meaning! And we enthusiastically swapped Christmas-themed mini-quilts. Loads of good food and a fun show & tell rounded out the evening. We missed everyone who couldn’t make it!
